Key Takeaways

  • YouGov asked 1,132 American adult citizens: “Are you proud to be an American?”
  • 96% of the Republicans polled answered “yes.”
  • None of the Republican respondents answered with “no.” 4% said they were “not sure.”
  • Across categories, those who voted for Harris in 2024 had the highest “no” share (29%).

A flurry of events have occurred since President Donald Trump began his second term this January.

Aside from signing the most first-week executive orders and overhauling several federal agencies—the administration has also taken aim at America’s closest trade partners, upending several key global trade channels.

As a result, America’s reputation abroad has been impacted substantially. But how does its populace still feel about the country? We visualize results from the latest polling data.

The Demographics of American Pride

In YouGov’s latest survey (March 15–17, 2025), 73% of the 1,132 adults surveyed said they were proud to be American.

$100K+ 78% 10% 12%
Total 73% 13% 14%

Republicans were most vocal about this question about whether they were proud to be American: 96% answering “yes” to the question, and 4% “not sure.”

In fact, none of the Republican respondents answered with “no.”

And across all the categories, those who voted for Harris in 2024, had the highest “no” share (29%) of all groups.

But there are some nuances within the data, especially compared to 2024’s survey results.

Republican voters swung a full 7 points to “yes” between 2024–25. At the same time Democrats swung 8 points to “no.”

This suggests pride in the country is increasingly tied to who’s in power—and their politics—than broader national identity.
