As initially reported by the Census Department, motor vehicle sales were up 1.2% in July following a 0.9% gain in June. At the time, I commented, “This is unbelievably bizarre in the face of actual auto sales reports.”

One favorite and reoccurring smartass remark I remember well is that whenever my parents blamed something on, "they," I would inevitably ask them, "who is they?"  The conversations would go something like this.

Mom: "I can't believe how much we spend on gas.  95 cents a gallon!  Unbelievable."
