Growing up in a dominant Italian household, with pasta served every god damned night, I never bonded with my Irish side. My Father had died when I was 4, so I never got to know him or his side of the family. It was only when I got older did I begin to embrace my Irish side -- especially on St. Paddy's Day -- a day designated for everyone to embrace the Irish culture. It might bemuse you to learn that I regale myself in all of the traditional accouterments -- a full blown leprechaun trotting around in green garb, with dastardly designs at becoming as drunk as humanly possible.

A new study reveals that 50% of the chicken contained in a Subway oven-roasted patty is made from non-chicken ‘alien’ DNA.  According to researchers in Canada, a DNA test revealed that only half of Subway’s chicken actually contained real chicken. CBS Los Angeles reports: The results showed the Oven Roasted Chicken patties averaged 53.6 percent chicken DNA while the Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki strips came in at 42.8 percent.

“Flat sales” are now a “welcome change.” The New Normal.

National restaurant data and anecdotal evidence has been piling up. “T Vogel,” a commenter on WOLF STREET, put it this way:

My wife and I make almost 30k more than the median family income in my town (northern CA) with no kids. Our rent just went up by 1k a month – landlord selling – starter houses are selling at 500k.

 

We are not spending a dime more than needed. I plan to skip our weekly night eating out now.

Obesity is a 'big' (pardon the pun) problem in the Pacific Islands.  In fact, a recent World Bank study found that over half the adult population in 16 of the 17 Pacific Island countries and territories were obese while over 75% of the population was obese in 11 of those counties.
