The US has slammed comments by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in which he vowed to regain control of Syria. A spokesman for the US state department said there was no military solution to the years-long conflict  in Syria after Assad said he planned to liberate the entire country from the the control of terrorists.

Poland has launched a formal protest against the BBC in connection with a report that suggested that its current government was “Putinising” the country. A letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has accused the broadcaster of being biased and inaccurate. The letter also accused the BBC report of failing to provide a balanced argument, saying it lacked both background information and situational context.

Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz has pulled a campaign ad after it emerged that it starred an actress involved in a number of soft pornographic films. Washington Post reports: Cruz’s campaign released four ads this week and, for the most part, they have tried to use humor against the candidate’s rivals. One ad out Friday spoofed a scene from the 1999 movie “Office Space,” where a group of office workers smash a printer.
