Syrian Army Advances Within Four Km Of Ancient Palmyra

The Syrian army with the help of Russian air support is just four kilometers (2.5 miles) away from the gates of Palmyra. The ancient city was considered the crossroads of the old world and an oasis in the Syrian desert. Middle East Online reports: Troops and allied militia backed by Russian air power have since early March been pushing an advance around the UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the “Pearl of the Desert”. They are now just four kilometres (2.5 miles) from the gates of the city that fell to the jihadists in May last year, sending shock waves around the world.

Pentagon To Install £200 Million Spy Center In UK

The Pentagon have announced plans to build a new £200 million spy center in the UK this week, which will act as the U.S. military headquarters for all military data in Europe and Africa.  The Joint Intelligence Analysis Center will be located at RAF Croughton, and will become the headquarters for all European and African military communications, staffing 1,250 people and analysing intelligence from over 50 countries.

Salah Abdeslam Planned To Blow Himself Up Before Changing His Mind

Captured Paris terror suspect, Salah Abdeslam, accused of being involved in the November attacks in Paris that killed 130 people was supposed to blow himself up at the Stade de France stadium but had a change of mind, it has emerged. Abdeslam was on the run evading the police for 120 days until his capture during an anti-terror raid on Friday. The Independent reports: Abdeslam told investigators he had planned to blow himself up at the Stade de France, but changed his mind, the French prosecutor has said.
