All Of Us, Church Going

I have been away at a funeral for the past few hours. Mike Hughes, a lawyer who was one of the pillars of our local community, died suddenly over the weekend. It was a real shock. His son Stewart, who shared a law practice with him, is our family’s lawyer; I spoke with Mike not long ago, the last time I was in their office. He was a familiar face around town. Then again, everybody’s a familiar face in a town as small as ours.

Ben Op Book Bleg

Now it can be told: the publisher of The Benedict Option will be Sentinel, the conservative imprint of Penguin Random House. The editor is Bria Sandford. Let joy be unconfined! We’re aiming to hit bookstores in Spring 2017.

I’m trying to think of a good subtitle. Something along the lines of, Keeping The Faith In A Post-Christian Age. But punchier, if possible. Any thoughts?

CNN: Is Pope Francis “Obsessed” With Satan?

In a rather strange article, CNN asks why Pope Francis “obsessed” with the devil. CNN reports: His tweets and homilies about the devil, Satan, the Accuser, the Evil One, the Father of Lies, the Ancient Serpent, the Tempter, the Seducer, the Great Dragon, the Enemy and just plain “demon” are now legion.  For Francis, the devil is not a myth, but a real person. Many modern people may greet the Pope’s insistence on the devil with a dismissive, cultural affectation, indifference, or at the most indulgent curiosity.  Yet Francis refers to the devil continually.

The Bible May Have Been Written Earlier Than Previously Believed

Researchers at Tel Aviv University have found evidence suggesting that key parts of the Old Testament could have been written earlier than some scholars believe. Inscriptions found on pottery shows evidence of literacy among the population of an Iron Age fortress in Israel dating back 2,500 years. The researchers posted thier findings in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, where they revealed that 600 BCE pottery from the Arad citadel suggested that not only the elites in society were able to read.

Hundreds Of Elderly Americans Protest At ‘Democracy Spring’

Hundreds of Americans, including many ‘elder-activists’ marched in support of political reform in Washington, DC, taking part in a sit-in and risking arrest as they pushed for fairer elections.  Today was the second day of the Democracy Spring sit in at the US Capitol, as protestors, returned to demonstrate against money and corruption in politics. Multiple arrests have already been made, according to reports. RT reports: The sit-in comes one day after more than 400 people were arrested for participating in what has been been termed the “Democracy Spring” movement.
